STC Unit Sequence Modifications For those of you who haven't noticed, the STC program has undergone a few changes since its inception, but as we're getting down to the wire, the final curriculum has emerged. Solids and Liquids, Comparing and Measuring, and Animal Studies are moving along in their post-field-test revisions. The last four units under development have just wrapped up their field-testing. These units' working titles are Changes, Land and Water, Motion and Design, and The Technology of Paper. The NSRC will place Food Chemistry at 5th grade and Motion and Design at 4th in the final picture. For those of you who have already installed Food Chemistry at 4th grade in your own curriculum, rest assured that it works perfectly well at either grade level. In fact, it was field-tested successfully at both. In addition, Motion and Design will work fine at 5th grade. The program modifications during the development of the STC curriculum have been due to several factors – the experience gained during the field-testing of particular units, input from a variety of educators involved in the project, and the emergence of the National Science Standards (with which STC meshes pretty smoothly). We realize that the changes may have created some confusion and backpedaling for you, and we apologize for that, but we feel that the final program is stronger for them. We plan to produce no more units for sale in their field-test form (Rocks and Minerals should be the last one). The revision process has been greatly sped up, and it seems more useful to devote everyone's time to final production of the remaining units. Subsequent issues will continue to update you on the status of the new units.
